Andrew Sabl is Orrick Fellow and Visiting Professor (2013-20) in the Program on Ethics, Politics and Economics at Yale University. He is the author of Ruling Passions: Political Offices and Democratic Ethics, and Hume’s Politics: Coordination and Crisis in the History of England, both from Princeton University Press, as well as numerous scholarly articles. He is currently finishing a project, tentatively titled “The Uses of Hypocrisy: An Essay on Toleration,” on the subject of this talk.
